Fighting Diabetes in Ventura
Diabetes is a disease of epic proportion — and it touches lives right here in our Ventura community. The World Health Organization names it one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and more than 1 in 11 adults globally are living with diabetes today.
Left untreated, diabetes can lead to blindness, nerve damage, kidney failure, stroke, or heart attack. Even more concerning, nearly half of all cases go undiagnosed, leaving many at risk without knowing it.
The Ventura Downtown Lions Club is committed to changing that. We work to reduce the prevalence of diabetes locally by:
• Supporting awareness and education efforts in Ventura schools and community spaces.
• Partnering with local health professionals to provide screenings and prevention resources.
• Encouraging healthier lifestyles through community events and programs.
Through Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), local clubs like ours can access grants to support screenings, health facility access, educational programs, and even diabetes camps for young people. Together, we are making strides to ensure Ventura residents have the tools and resources they need to live healthier, longer lives.
