Childhood Cancer

Lions and Leos provide support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer through impactful service activities.

Facts

  • Cancer is the leading cause of death for children and adolescents around the world.
  • Approximately 300,000 children aged 0 to 19 years old are diagnosed with cancer each year.
  • Childhood cancer generally cannot be prevented or screened.
  • In 2019, only 20% of countries had early detection guidelines.

We have a plan

Lions and Leos help communities by assisting in improved support, diagnostics, treatment and care. We provided a donation to the Ventura County Medical Center to open a local Ronald McDonald House supporting families by providing a home away from home, along with comfort, support and resources for the medical care of their child’s needs. We have held “Magic Yarn” workshops creating “Super Hero” wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
