Protecting Ventura’s Environment

The Ventura Downtown Lions Club is committed to protecting the natural beauty that makes our community so special — from our beaches and harbor to our parks and open spaces. Caring for our environment means caring for the health, safety, and future of our neighbors.

Plastics and pollutants threaten both marine life and human health. Globally, plastic accounts for 85% of all marine litter, and right here in Ventura, we see its impact along our coastline and in our waterways. Each year, thousands of marine mammals die from plastic pollution — and these pollutants often make their way into our own food and water supply.

Our Ventura Lions are working to:
• Organize beach and community cleanups along the coast and in local parks.
• Support recycling, waste reduction, and community beautification efforts.
• Partner with schools and local groups to raise awareness of how small changes — like reducing single-use plastics — make a big difference.
• Plant and care for trees to strengthen our neighborhoods and improve air quality.

By acting locally, we’re part of a global movement to restore ecosystems, reduce pollution, and protect biodiversity. Together with Lions and Leos around the world, we’re helping create healthier communities and a more sustainable planet.
